Botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin injections temporarily reduce muscle activity in specific areas of the face, helping to soften the appearance of expression lines that form over time. The aim should always be to support a more relaxed, refreshed appearance while maintaining natural facial movement and expression.
This is a prescription-only medicine and is not suitable for everyone. It might be right or you if you have noticed lines that remain visible when your face is at rest, or if muscle activity is contributing to unwanted tension or facial imbalance. A consultation is always required first and treatment is only offered where appropriate following a full clinical assessment.
At your consultation, will assess your suitability, discuss your concerns and explain the treatment in full. Where appropriate, a prescription will be issued by a qualified prescriber, and a personalised treatment plan created with safety and balance as the priority. You will never have this treatment on the same day.
Outcomes vary between individuals and depend on muscle activity, your anatomy and treatment planning. Onset can take up to 2 weeks and can last up to 3-6 months depending on your individual response. Treatment plans and pricing are confirmed following consultation and prescription approval. We prescribe toxin in units of 50, 100 and 150, depending upon your clinical need.
Frequently Asked Questions
What brands do you use?
The toxin used in clinic is Relfydess Botulinum Toxin Type A.
Why do you use Relfydess instead of Botox?
Relfydess has been formulated using a patented PEARL technology, which means it comes in its purest form and therefore has shown, in clinical trials, faster onset and longer duration. However, whilst this is our toxin of cohoice, swe can discuss what is specific to your needs and prescribe an althernative toxin if required and appropriate.
Are these treatments painful?
All injectables will come with a slight pinching feel as we are using a needle to infiltrate the skin barrier. Relfydess comes as a liquid solution, which contains Sodium Chloride and this ingredient has a slightly more intense sensation than other toxins that need to be reconstituted. The licensed indication for reconstitution is Sodium Chloride, however, in clinical practice, you may experience these toxins being reconstituted with an off licence solution to reduce the sting.
Why do I need a consultation for toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a prescription drug and it is essential that we do a face to face consultation and assessment before writing a prescription. This process helps determine whether this is the right treatment for you, as there may be alternatives you had not considered. It is a legal requirement and forms part of the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct, that this consultation takes place. As a nurse led clinic, we do not hold stock and are required to prescribe and order in. This allows a time delay between consult and treatment for you to ensure you are fully informed and are making the right treatment decision. We can normally have your prescription in clinic within 48 hours.
